Training Range In Your 70's

I am currently level 78 range. For a long time I trained on Moss Giants, mainly because of the seeds they drop. Mossies are a good strategy when in the 60s, but as you climb into the 70s they get rather slow.

At level 76 I decided to use range on Slayer tasks. At first results were excellent. Bloodvelds, Cave Horrors, and even Jellies were all excellent for range training at my level. I climbed from level 76 to 78 in no time at all.
My most recent slayer task was Hellhounds. After a couple of hours I realised that ranging these buggers was a waste of time. I was spending more time hiding behind rocks and chasing stray arrows than I was killing Hellhounds. I went back to the bank and got some holy gear and about nine prayer potions, and melee’d 120 of ‘em in no time at all.

Conclusion: Range is best trained when you don’t have to hide behind obstacles. So pick a critter that your level can cope with, and you don’t have to hide from. If you are constantly having to adjust your position (and sprinkling arrows everywhere), or waiting for safe opponents to respawn, then you are wasting time.

Personally, I think bloodvelds are excellent victims for the ambitious ranger - always providing a good harvest of blood runes.
