Free Experience at the Varrock Museum
Well almost, there’s no such thing as a free lunch you know Eye-wink
The new and improved Varrock Museum is open for business, only they need some help to get the exhibits in tip-top shape. If you decide to help out you’ll be rewarded with Kudos and up to 39,000 experience points! Now that’s not to be sniffed at!
There are three ‘tasks’ that you will need to tackle in order to gain these rewards, before I go into detail on those I’ll quickly tell you about the Museum ‘Kudos’.
Kudos is earned for every bit of help you give to the museum (just like ‘favour’ in the Jungle Clean Up mini game). The maximum amount of Kudos you can have is 153 and you start a 0 - Kudos does not diminish. If you gain over 100 Kudos the Museum will invite you to a new island that they have discovered (just as soon as they sort out the transportation).
To earn Kudos you need to complete tasks in the following areas:
Archaeology: Add to exhibits on the first floor by cleaning rocks brought from the Digsite. (50 kudos)History: Give Historian Minas (1st floor) information about past quests. (75 kudos)Natural History: Talk to Orlando Smith in the basement and answer the quizzes at each display stand. (28 kudos)
Experience is given in the following stages for gaining Kudos:
51+ Kudos: 1000 experience in Mining101+ Kudos: 2500 experience in Crafting and Mining151+ Kudos: 4000 experience in Crafting, Hunter, Prayer, Slayer and Smithing
Simply speak to the Information Clerk for the rewards (located on the ground floor - NW corner) after gaining the appropriate amounts. The rest of the experience (13K) is given via red genie lamps - you will be given these by the Historian as you give him information (based on quests that you’ve completed).
Archaeology: To gain Kudos you’ll need to clean up artefacts that have been found at the dig-site. Don’t worry the artefacts have been delivered to the Museum, so you won’t have to go trapesing about all over Runescape! The Digsite Cleaning Area is located in the Southern part of the ground floor of the Museum (behind the roped off area). First you’ll need to gather some equipment (from a storage space on the wall) take leather gloves, leather boots, specimen brush, rock-pick and a trowel.
To start you’ll need to take a specimen rock from the pile (only one at a time - no stocking up!) and then ‘use it’ on a cleaning table. You’ll either destroy the artefact! or clean it up and discover what the item is. There are five items that you can discover that the Museum will display (these earn the Kudos). These items are: Pottery, Old symbol, Ancient symbol, Ancient coin and an Old coin - show these items to one of the Archaeologists working at a cleaning table, he’ll tell you where to display the item (one of the cases outside of the Digsite Cleaning area).
Some of the items you clean up are not worth displaying and you can place these in one of the crates by the double doors (you’ll select a reward from the crate - typically iron daggers or knives). You might clean up a ruby necklace - the Archaologist will then explain how to make a new type of teleport necklace. The other type of jewellery you find you can either sell (for a measly 5gp!) or place in the crates for removal.
Once you’ve found, cleaned and displayed the five items you’ve completed this task.
History: This is the easiest task. Firstly you need to go up to the first floor (2nd floor for our American Sprogs) and find Historian Minas. You can then tell him about certain quests and the historical events that they reflect. These quests are:
Temple of IkovShield of ArravObservatory QuestMerlin’s CrystalDemon SlayerThe Grand TreeA Tail of Two CatsMaking HistoryIn Aid of the MyrequeDevious MindsHazeel’s CultWhat Lies BelowRune MysteriesDesert Treasure (curse of Zaros mini-quest).
After telling him about certain quests he’ll give you a red genie lamp there are four in all - three are worth 1k experience to a skill of your choice and one of them gives 10k!
This task can give up to 70 Kudos (5 Kudos for each quest) - so remember to claim your experience reward from the Information Clerk.
Natural History: There are 14 anamatronic(!) displays in the basement, Orlando Smith has messed up the question on the plaque on each exhibit (typical!) and he needs you to sort them out. Speak to Orlando Smith, he’s at the bottom of the stairs from the ground floor. Then all you have to do is go to each display and answer three questions (correctly) about the creature displayed. If you get a question wrong you’ll be asked another (there are 5 or 6 possible questions for each exhibit.
This task earns you 28 Kudos (2 for each exhibit) - remember to talk to the Information Clerk to gain your experience bonuses!
I hope this helps, apologies if it’s too long winded.
Kudos to the Sprogs
