WoodCutting
Items required to use this guide: Wood cutting axe, Knife or tinder Box.
What axe to use?
Here is a list of axes and why to and not to use them. ( if you buy the axe’s from the ge it is can be cheaper then from the axe store)
- Bronze axe, Level 1 Attack and Woodcutting needed. This axe is give to you from tutorial or can be brought from any axe shop for 16gps. This is a very slow axe but it does its job and I would only required use till level 5
- Iron Axe, level 1 Attack and Woodcutting means this the better choice between bronze and iron. This is axe can be brought or made, also can be brought from any axe shop for 56 gps. This is faster then the bronze axe but still to slow to be used other then for the lowest level I would only use till level 6.
- Steel Axe, Level 5 Attack to wield level 6 Woodcutting need to use and use.(If you have not got the level to wield any axe just use keep it in your inventory and you can still chop with it)This is a good axe for lower levels and it has a good speed for normal trees and oaks, I would only use this if I could afford to use the black axe. You can make or buy this axe, The axe store sells it at 200gps.
- Black Axe, Level 10 Attack to wield Level 6 needed to use. This is the same woodcutting level needed as the steel. This is quite a lot of money to buy and you can only buy from GE. So if you can get one use one if you cant then use steel.
- Mithril Axe, Level 20 Attack to wield Level 21 woodcutting to use. This is a great axe its fast and not to much money to use, this is one of those axes that can be used past the next axe, This axe is good enough to go up to Lvl 40. This axe can be made and brought from GE.
- Adamant Axe, Level 30 Attack to wield Level 31 to use. This is a powerful axe that can be used for combat also. This is a little better then the Mithril axe so it is up to you, I wouldn’t change from the Mithril axe as it doesn’t make that much difference to speed. Can be made or brought from GE.
- Rune Axe, Level 40 Attack to wield Level 41 woodcutting to use. Now this is every f2p woodcutters dream axe. It is fast and it is very powerful, you can use this axe on all trees up to magic trees and you wont find a tree that it cant drop with good speed. Even p2p members should under estimate the power of the rune axe. I would use this till I can afford a dragon axe or the levers required to use a dragon axe. Player made and GE brought.
- Inferno Adze *, 92 fire making required to wield, Level 61 woodcutting needed to use on trees. This is a weird axe. it’s a pickaxe that cuts trees or a hatchet that mines Lol. If you can use this I would it is the same a the dragon axe in speed. Reward for light all 14 beacons in the all fired up mini-game.
- Dragon Axe *, 61 Attack to wield, Level 61 woodcutting to use. This is be god of axes it is fast powerful and makes cutting trees as simple as walking to Varrock. Only can be brought from GE or Monster Drop.
*members only.

Trees
Ok now you know what axes to use you need to know what trees can be cut. Here is a list of most of the tree in runescape. And a location or 2 where I feel is best to cut them and where the closest bank is.
- Tree ( evergreen, dead tree) - 25exp - 1 regular log per tree - Level 1 to cut. These can be found all over runescape.
- Achey* - 25exp - 1 Achey log per tree - Level 1 to cut. These can be found south of castle wars and just a little north of Oo’glog .
- Oak - 37.5 exp - Random number of logs per tree - Level 15 to cut. The can be found everywhere and the only 2 place I know if that has a bank close is dranor(just west of the bank) and Varrock.
- Willow - 67.5 exp - Random number of logs per tree - Level 30 to cut. These can be found by most rives and ponds on runescape but my favourite locations are next to the bank in dranor and west of the bank in Cathby.
- Teak * - 80 exp - Random number of logs per tree - Level 35 to cut. These can be found just south west of caste wars which makes castle wars the closest bank, that really is it in the way of close to a bank.
- Maple * - 10 exp - Random number of logs per tree - Level 45 to cut. These are best found just behind seers bank and north of that also.
- Hallow * - 82.5 exp - You get bark from the tree not logs. - Level 45 to cut. These can only be found east of Canifis.
- Mahogany* - 125 exp - Random number of logs per tree - Level 50 to cut. There is not really anywhere with an easy to get to bank, but they best locations are ape atoll and Kharazi Jungle.
- Artic Pine* - 40 exp - 1 Log per tree - Level 55 to cut. These are only located Neitiznot.
- Eucalyptus* - 165 exp - Random number of logs per tree - Level 58 to cut. These are only located north of Oo’glog.
- Yew - 175 exp - Random Number of logs per tree - Level 60 to cut. There are loads of locations, the one at Cathby is not the best location, everyone knows where it is and yes there maybe more trees there but there are better locations. Edgevill there is 2 trees best on members worlds, Gnome Stronghold next to the east corner of the fence there are 4 trees and there is always a world with no one there.
- Magic - 250 exp - Random number of logs per tree - Level 75 to cut. There are loads of these located all over runescape but there are only 1 or 2 I find the best place is next to the mage training arena north of the duel arena, and Isafdar next to the village.

Now you know all the types of trees exp gained from them and best location for them. In my next post I will be giving a training guide and a use of logs guide to help you on your way.
Training guide.
Ok now you know everything there is to know about woodcutting you now need to work out what to do with this knowledge. So here is a guide on what to train on and is the second in the three post thread for woodcutting.
What Tree To Cut
This is a guild for which trees to cut to get your exp fast Not for making money that will follow after this one.
- Level 1-15 - 2411 exp to get - 96 normal logs - About 1 hours worth of work- I would use iron then black(steel if I cant get black) and just cut normal trees,
- Level 15-30 - 10952 exp - 293 oak logs - About 2 hours of work - For this I would use black(steel if you can get a black one) then move up to a Mithril axe. Just cutting oaks next to dranor you are getting the most exp you can and you are not wasting time to bank.
- Level 30-45 - 59101 exp - 876 willow logs - Between 2 - 3 hours. For this all you need to do is cut at dranor next to the bank and cut just willows (f2p keep cutting willows till 60). For this I would keep the Mithril axe till 41 then go and get a rune axe.
- Level 45 - 60 - 212230 exp - 2123 Maple logs Or 3145 willow logs - Both will take almost 4hrs to do with a rune axe, If you go for maples cut up at seers just behind the bank and willows you can stay at dranor or move to Cathby to the west of the bank along the coast line.
- Level; 60 -75 - 936679 exp - With dragon axe 5353 yew logs, With out dragon axe 10893 Willow till 70 then 2701 yews - Maybe a day or two. If you are going to do the first o the two and stay with just yews then gnome stronghold is best place to cut. If you are cutting willows then dranor is the place to be at.
- Level 75 - 99 - 11,824,010 exp - 175171 willow logs - About 1 or 2 months. This is it the last haul it is going to be a long run and it can be done in a month if you are pure to woodcutting you can get it done in under 2 months.
Please remember that this is to do it as quick as possible not the funniest or the way of which you can get the most money but it is the quickest way to level.
If you follow the guide as above till you get to level 45. Cut maples till Lvl 60 yews till level 80 and then magic trees till Level 99.
This guide is for the use of anyone who wants to get there woodcutting level up as fast as possible. In my last thread I will give you some ideas on what to do with all those logs you have just cut.
What To Do With What Log
Ok this is the last part of my little guide. I have gone through everything I have wrote and I have worked out what would be the best way to make money and exp in fletching and fire making.
This is a table with all the logs you can get and what you can do with them and what level you need to be and also what exp you would gain for your action.
Logs
- Regular logs - Fletching: Level 1 - Arrow shafts 5xp x 10 per log, Level 5 - Bow(u) 5xp, Level 10 - Long Bow(u) 10exp. Firemaking: Level 1 - 40 exp per log
- Oak logs - Fletching: Level 20 Oak Shortbow(u) 16.5 exp, Level 25 Oak Longbow(u) 25 exp. Firemaking: Level 15 - 60exp.
- Willow logs - Fletching: Level 35 Willow Shortbow(u) 33.3 exp, Level 40 Willow Longbow(u) 41.5exp. Firemaking: Level 30 - 90exp.
- Maple logs - Fletching: Level 50 Maple Shortbow(u) 50exp, Level 55 Maple Longbow(u) 58.3. Firemaking: Level 45 - 135exp
- Yew logs - Fletching: Level 65 Yew Shortbow(u) 66.5exp, Level 70 Yew Longbow(u) 75exp. Firemaking: Level 60 - 202.5 exp
- Magic logs - Fletching: Level 80 Magic Shortbow(u) 83.3exp, Level 85 Magic Longbow(u) 91.5exp. Firemaking: Level 75 303.8 exp.
There is a list of what you could do with your logs to incress your total exp and get some more level other then woodcutting up.
To Make Money
This is a little way you can make a little money from this skill and with the logs you have left over.
Logs
- Regular Logs - Making in to arrow shafts and either add feathers or just sell as shafts, or make into planks and sell.
- Oak Logs - Make into planks and sell.
- Willow Logs - If you have level 33 summoning make into beaver pouches and sell.
- Maple Logs - Sell as logs as people can use them for power fletching.
- Yew Logs - Make into yew longbows and sell them or alch them, or just sell them as logs.
- Magic Logs - Sell sell and sell even more.
Ok with magic logs if you are training to get fletching or Firemaking cape then don’t sell and save them as they have got a great exp rate for them, but if you are not just sell them all as you will get a great return for them .
Ok that is everything I can give you to help you on your way to get your Woodcutting, Fletching Or Firemaking capes or maybe getting rich. I hope you get your cape as I will be getting mine very soon using this mode of levelling.
Myth: If you have a higher woodcutting level you will cut magic’s quicker!
This is not true jagex have said that magic tree give randomly and is not level dependent. If you want fast magic logs use a dragon axe.
Truth:The fuller the world the faster your magic tree with respawns!
This is 100% true if you are on a full world you will get magic trees re-spawning a log quicker then on an empty one.
Enjoy Woodcutting.
