Addiction To Runescape

It starts as a little bit of fun. Slightly bewildered you wander off from Lumbridge looking for adventure. It doesn’t take long before Jagex have got you hooked in. As the addiction becomes stronger you suffer cravings to level up. This is an addict’s term for ingesting huge amounts of Runescape, hoping to reach an ever better high. As time goes on it takes longer and longer to get that high.

Everyday things start to slide. Those little adventures you used to enjoy have become a shameful addiction. You start to tell lies to cover the awful truth. You play the game in secret. High levels (the tell-tale signs of the Runescape junky) are explained away as the result of efficient play. But the truth is you have spent countless hours levelling up. You have become little more than a drooling cyber-junky. You’re a Runehead always finding time to level up, no matter what the cost.

Things get worse. The free game that Jagex supplied you with can no longer satisfy your cravings. At this low point many addicts supply their credit card details to Jagex, and start the stage in their addiction known as the members’ game.

Is there hope?

The short answer to this question is no. The average runehead can expect to spiral downwards into a delusion world of relentless repitition. The demands of reality start to be ignored. Addicts begin to take on a haggard appearance as they are increasingly deprived of sleep and food and human company. Constant levelling up further erodes the connection to reality.

What can an addict do?

If you are a Runehead there is nothing you can do. Just keep playing Runescape and enjoy. After all only noobs quit.
